I started studying Twittering about 2009, right when I got laid off from my job. Learned a whole lot from it, especially that you can see everything, like a birds' eye view, when the birds flock together, so to speak. My whole town of #Nhv was making all kinds of sounds, but it wasn't until I decoded Twitter that I fully understood.
Understood what? Perhaps you might say, what birds mean when they chirp. Clearly they're communicating, and it's evidentially effective by means that birds are able to migrate to specific areas with great accuracy. If that were the case for information, a tool such as Twitter would clearly serve that purpose.
There's enough symbol language in the platform to make your head spin, you might say. Well I don't think so. It's actually not enough to make me dizzy for a second. The # tags are search terms. Browse by terms. When I say "#punchout" it appears as a link. When you click, it takes you to the place where every mention of that word can also be searched. There you will find a variety of people who all use the term "#Punchout" in various contexts.
This is how the platform began spreading in terms of its awareness. Once a week, when I'm not busy bouncing my boxing glove off of King Hippo's belly, I go on Twitter. Maybe while I'm relaxing at the Gym. During these cool down sessions, I like to see what all the people say who remember me. Sometimes people have dreams about this old videogame, and it freaks 'em out when we tweet to them, to remind folks that we're real.
